Microsoft Visio (formerly Microsoft Office Visio) is graphics application which is used to make diagrams and is part of the Microsoft Office family. MS Visio was first introduced by the Shapeware Corporation in 1992. It was acquired in 2000 by Microsoft Corporation.

This Software is available in two editions :
  1. Standard

Appearance of Home Screen of this software is as below :

First one has to learn the whole screen before using the MS Visio. So, home Screen of the Visio is more over is same as MS Paint But MS Vision is more power full then MS paint. There is Menubar, Quick Access Toolbar etc availble. Just like another products of Microsoft i.e. MS Word, MS Excel

Have a look :

On top, there is a quick access toolbar which is used to attached frequently used commands as shortcut. Menubar is available below the Quick Access Toolbar.

File, Home, Insert, Data, Process, Review, View, Developer and Add-Ins are main menus. All mentioned menu are available except Developer menu. One has to activated it for use.

Ribbon are set of tools contains by menu. you can hide the the Ribbon by double clicking on it. While on left handside there is one panel is known as SHAPE Window. Shape window contains Different types of Stencils. See the below image of Shape window.

There are Stencils for Business, Engineering, Flowcharts, General, Maps and Floor Plans, Networking, Schedule and Extras.. These Stencils contains related different Shapes. if you don't know which stencil contains 'shape you want' then you can easily find with the SEARCH options(Near Stencil).

Once You find shape you can just easily drag and drop the same in Drawing Page. Drawing Page is workspace. In which you have to make your diagrams. You will find more details about how to draw diagrams in next blog.

In Other Components of Home Screen, Ruler is very useful tool to make drawing, diagrams aligned and accurate. If you don't find Ruler in your home screen, you can enable it from View Menu->Click on checkbox of Ruler. Another tools are Zoom tool and Fit to Page tool. As the name suggest Zoom tool used to set different level of zoom to work in detail. Fit to Page is used to set drawing page in one page which means it is used to escape from any zoom level to normal view.
